Meet Our Amplify Mentors

Alysha Laviniere

Alysha is Deputy Production Manager at Kiln Theatre. She has worked at Mountview Academy and some of London’s most prestigious venues including Shakespeare's Globe, the Royal Court and the Young Vic.

We caught up with Alysha about joining her role in our AMPLIFY scheme

WHERE DID YOU FIRST ENCOUNTER TANGLE?

2021 – I was Production Manager at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts and Anna Coombs contacted Stephen Jameson (the Artistic Director at the time), to be put in touch with me.

WHY DID YOU WANT TO BECOME AND AMPLIFY MENTOR?

Anna and I immediately formed a great relationship and I admired her passion. I am fortunate to be in a position of staffing teams and creating opportunities for the underrepresented, so it felt like a perfect collaboration.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE THE MOST WORKING WITH TANGLE AND ON THE AMPLIFY SCHEME

Feeling like part of a team and sometimes being called upon for ideas of how to develop the scheme.

Anything surprised you in your sessions with mentees?

Only the resilient enthusiasm and excitement to be entering an industry that has been suffering as a result of the pandemic – it is so refreshing!

What does Amplify mean to you?

It provides me with a purpose outside of my day-to-day job. I also really appreciate the community of like-minded mentors and the opportunity to build connections with mentees and potential future colleagues.

What would you say to anyone considering applying for the scheme?

You have nothing to lose, but so much to gain! It can be difficult finding a place within the industry if you are starting out fresh and this scheme will give you a foot in the door, simply by networking and building contacts in your phone book! Having someone to ask questions to or lean on in times of worry can be really rewarding, for everyone involved.
